Tennis has had one hell of a tour–literally. As the band’s guitarist Patrick Riley explains at the start, nearly everyone in their group is sick, including his wife and lead singer, Alaina Moore, who had fainted days earlier. The illnesses caused the band to cancel a few shows, but they were back on the schedule fairly quickly. They will play their biggest show at Brooklyn Steel tonight.
Facing adversity is something that Tennis is no stranger to. After not having the greatest experience with their record label, the duo set out to release their fourth studio album, album Yours, Conditionally on Mutually Detrimental, a record label they started themselves. The move proved successful, as critics, fans and the charts agree that this is the band’s best work yet. With all of this in mind, I spoke with Patrick about creating the label, making this record and finding your artistic voice and vision in such a public manner.
