Barns Courtney has been through a lot, but you’d never guess it if you bumped into him on the street. There is a charisma and optimism that shines through his lyrics and his personality that creates the feeling that Barns doesn’t have a care in the world. On a rainy Monday night I met him for what was supposed to be a five minute interview at a small, non-despycript Chinese restaurant. What I got instead was a twenty plus minute back and forth with someone that felt like an old friend. As we left he gave me a strong hug and said, “Thank you so much man. I really appreciate it.” In four years of being a journalist, I’ve seen nothing like it. Although they aren’t all pleasant, you can tell that Barns is the type of person who seems grateful for every experience he’s ever had. On his album The Attractions Of Youth, he shares some of those experiences with you. Check out the full interview to hear Barns and I talk about the album, perseverance and the relationship between love and work.
