What do Troye Sivan, Tame Impala, Boy and Bear, Crowded House, Sia and INXS have in common with this week’s guest? All of these bands, All Our Exes Live In Texas included, are winners of one of the prestigious ARIA Awards, Australia’s equivalent of the Grammys. Listen to All Our Exes debut album, When We Fall , and you’ll see why it took home the ARIA for best Blues and Roots album. The band is able to masterfully mix voices, instruments, and elements of classic folk with more modern twists and twinges. In this interview we talk about learning new instruments, melodrama, and working together to create one of Australia’s best album. We also discuss how they came to be the backing band for one of the year’s biggest singles— “Praying” by Ke$ha.
Although they have not yet played Newport Folk, we’re featuring them during our Newport series because, let’s face it: it’s only a matter of time until they are rocking out on the fort stage.
