Like most folks, my first interaction with Kodaline was hearing their absolutely stunning song, “All I Want”. It’s a devastatingly sad, beautiful work that leaves you wanting more. But when the single from your debut album connects with millions, is a hit and is featured in countless movies and TV Shows, it sets the bar (and the trajectory of your band, for that matter) pretty high it also sets the bar pretty high. This info is how the conversation between myself and Mark Prendergast, Kodaline’s primary guitarist, is framed. We chat about success, striving to do better and trying to be innovative. We also chat about their album Politics Of Living (and that record’s equally chilling song, “Angel”), Dublin and Don Henley, because why not?
